Established in 1978, Southern Biologics, Inc. is a broker of blood components in both the injectable and diagnostic markets. Located in Tallahassee, Florida, the company serves manufacturers and biotechnology companies who make finished and semi-finished products.

OUR PRODUCT
Our customer base consists of fractionators that produce injectable products, and biotechnology companies and OEM houses that produce diagnostic kits, reagents and controls for non-injectable use. Southern Biologics also conducts business in the source plasma arena, but limits itself to diagnostic material for this market.
Up to 8% of our total body weight is blood. Plasma is a transportation system for all of the other components. It is a clear liquid protein and salt solution that accounts for 55% of total blood volume. Plasma contains blood clotting factors, sugars, lipids, vitamins, minerals, hormones, enzymes, antibodies and many types of proteins.
Red blood cells transport oxygen from our lungs to all living tissues in the body and carry away carbon dioxide. Red blood cells, also called erythrocytes, account for 40-50% of total blood volume. Oxygenated red cells give blood its red color.
White blood cells or leukocytes only account for about 1% of total blood volume and perform many different and highly specialized functions with regard to our immune responses. Platelets and thrombocytes clot our blood by adhering to blood vessel walls and also by releasing coagulating chemicals.

As a registered blood establishment, we are monitored and inspected by the FDA. Southern Biologics has never been issued a citation of non-compliance from the FDA. We purchase components from FDA registered and/or licensed blood banks and sell volumes both large and small of recovered plasma (frozen and liquid) outdated red cells, platelets and diagnostic source plasma.
